The Client

For this task of ‘how to change a life,’ our client will be Dennis Lever, who is Hannah’s grandad. Dennis is 70 years of age, and has recently suffered from a stroke, and has found out that there is a hole in his heart. This now means that Dennis must maintain a healthy lifestyle. In order to change his life, each week we will give Dennis a set of physical activity to do. Already Dennis is playing golf two times a week, but our health intervention will help him to reach his overall goal of loosing 5 kilograms.

The short term goals for Dennis is to loose 5 kilograms. Which we will be aiming foe in our intervention. Dennis’ long term goals are to get him to stay fit all the time, and kept his overall weight under 80 kilograms.

So far we think that our initial health intervention will include our client to go on short walks a couple of times each week. Walking is great, especially for older people as it strengthens your muscles, keeps your joints flexible, improve your energy levels and increase your stamina, as well as increasing your confidence and mood and help you feel better all round. Going to the gym is also a great way for Dennis to lose weight but is considered a fun alternative.

The interventions that will be introduced to our client will include of the cardiovascular training which will then be followed by stretching that helps muscles to remain healthy and loose. These trainings will include of going on walks and jogs throughout the week. Doing gym classes such as water aerobics is a great way for our client to stay active and loss weight at the same time. Dennis has a gym membership so he will be able to get involved in the water aerobic classes.

The plan from here is to finalise our intervention and construct weekly activities for Dennis to complete each week. Then after each week of the intervention, we will get Dennis to complete a survey on how the week went and how he is feeling.
